The Head of the Fed

The following is a poem I wrote many years ago that I wanted to post again:

The Head of the Fed

-by Paul Wharton

There once was a vigilant barber.

A secret basement did he harbor.

Evil people came in for a shave,

but found themselves in an early grave.

A bureaucrat sought to trade his pay.

The haircut price had risen that day.

But, government had handed him more.

So, the barber prepared for the gore.

The man explained what he would prefer.

Chit-chat revealed he was a killer.

He said he was the powerful Head

of public money known as the Fed.

The barber hastily went to work

on the snippy, narcissistic jerk.

He would not with the style of perm miss

the follicle emitting dermis.

Gentle Ben had wanted facial hair

to hide what his feelings would show there.

But, by making it extremely short,

his "good will" the businessmen would court.

When he walked by, he was self-aware

that at his each signal one would stare.

The most important Man in the room,

His power--a yawn--a nod--a boom!

But, back to the butcher's clean up job,

a lever pulled--a jolt thrust--a  bob.

Ben popped out his head in startled rage,

but, movement was useless in that cage.

The barber's title was of a name

when butcher and barber were the same.

Too bad bloody Ben has no way out

as Head of the Fed does twist and shout.
